Investigation into the Vyshneve Depot Explosion

According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed initial findings from the probe into the explosion at ammunition depots in Vyshneve, where a Russian strike on July 6 targeted a weapons storage facility. The attack claimed nine lives, left dozens injured, and forced the evacuation of over 500 residents from the affected area. Zelensky stated that investigators have identified specific officials responsible for allowing the placement of weapons depots in close proximity to residential buildings.

SBU Major General Oleksandr Poklad presented the early results of the inquiry, noting that the heads of two state-owned enterprises acted in violation of the law, decisions made by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief's Staff, and their official duties.

“The leaders of two state-owned enterprises operated contrary to the law, against the ruling of the Staff, and in defiance of their job descriptions. The investigation is now examining the conduct of deputy managers who were in charge of security,” Zelensky said.

The president has also tasked the SBU with auditing other facilities where weapons and ammunition are stored. He emphasized that “Ukraine has proper locations designated for storing arms and ammunition. All such sites are determined to ensure they are not situated near residential areas.” Meanwhile, the General Staff stated that the Vyshneve facility does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Aftermath and Government Plans

The Russian strike on Vyshneve on July 6 caused the most extensive destruction of residential property since the start of the full-scale war. In response to the tragedy, July 7 was declared a day of mourning in the city. The president also directed the SBU and intelligence agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding the secondary detonation.

In the coming days, the government intends to adopt measures aimed at tightening oversight of such facilities. Authorities have also discussed the future of Ukroboronprom in light of the investigation's findings.
