The Council of the European Union has approved the final decision to extend temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees until March 4, 2027. This decision is based on the EU Directive, which states that the extension of temporary protection is possible in cases where return to the country of origin is impossible due to war or serious threats to human rights.
The decision allows Ukrainians to legally reside, work, study, and receive basic social services in EU countries without the need to apply for asylum. EU member states will also exchange information to prevent the possibility of obtaining multiple refugee statuses in different countries simultaneously.
