Zelensky Warns of Another Major Russian Strike Expected Overnight
President Zelensky Issues Alert on New Russian Threat
According to Главком: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has cautioned that a large-scale attack by the Russian Federation (RF) could take place during the night. The warning came at the close of the war’s 1,560th day, based on intelligence reports. Zelensky also approved a schedule of diplomatic meetings for June, stressing the need to secure resources for defense against potential threats. This alert follows a pattern of repeated nighttime assaults that have targeted critical infrastructure and civilian areas.
Massive Strike Hits Ukraine
On the night of June 2, starting at 6:00 PM on June 1, Russia launched a massive combined assault on Ukraine using attack drones as well as air-, sea-, and ground-based missiles. The primary focus of the strike was Kyiv, but attacks also hit:
- Dnipro
- Kharkiv
- Zaporizhzhia
- Poltava region
- Other areas
As of 7:57 PM, Kyiv reported 90 injured and 6 dead, while in Dnipro the attack killed 16 people and wounded 42 others.
'We know from intelligence that a massive strike could happen again tonight. Please, I urge you, pay attention to the air raid alerts. All partners together, everyone in Europe must keep working to provide missiles for our air defense, to deliver the necessary systems, vital intelligence data, and other resources that help save lives.' Volodymyr Zelensky
He also highlighted the need for an anti-ballistic missile system in Europe: 'It is clear that Europe needs its own anti-ballistic system-sufficient in scale and strength to guarantee protection from any threat. There will be negotiations and meetings that will bring this result closer. Today I approved the corresponding diplomatic schedule for June-it will be active.'
This event underscores the ongoing danger Russia poses to Ukraine and the critical role of international support in bolstering defense capabilities. By calling on European partners to strengthen air defense systems, Zelensky emphasizes the necessity of coordinated action and joint efforts to counter aggression. The diplomatic meetings planned for June could mark a key step in enhancing relations and securing additional resources for Ukraine. Recognizing the threat and taking proactive measures on the global stage remain vital amid the continuing war.
