Ukrainian President Voices Deep Concern

According to Рубрика — Політика: During a virtual meeting with a bipartisan delegation from the US Senate and House of Representatives, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed serious worries over limitations affecting Starlink and Starshield services, alongside challenges with receiving Patriot missile supplies. He emphasized that US sanctions on Russia have complicated Ukraine’s defensive efforts. Zelensky also detailed brutal Russian attacks, including a drone strike in the Kharkiv region that killed six people, among them a mother and her toddler just over one year old.

Technology Constraints Impacting Military Operations

Restrictions on the bandwidth and speed of Starlink and Starshield services are undermining Ukrainian forces’ ability to conduct strikes and defend against aerial assaults. Zelensky pointed out that these connectivity issues persist across multiple frontlines, disrupting logistics and limiting the use of Ukraine’s medium-range weaponry. Despite these obstacles and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s refusal to end the war, Zelensky affirmed Ukraine’s commitment to pursuing a just peace.

At the meeting, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio clarified that Ukraine currently lacks access to the American military satellite system Starshield and denied any involvement by the Trump administration in imposing Starlink restrictions. Meanwhile, Representative Gregory Meeks, a Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, introduced a bipartisan bill aimed at blocking a US-Russia diesel fuel agreement.

“All of this points to a political decision to slow down our support,” said Volodymyr Zelensky.

Zelensky’s statements reveal a critical situation where technological limitations are threatening the effectiveness of Ukraine’s defense. The growing concern over US support and its consequences for Ukrainian military operations underscores the need for coordinated international efforts amid the conflict. At the same time, the proposed legislation to block the US-Russia fuel deal signals lawmakers’ intent to increase pressure on Moscow, potentially influencing the course of the war.

As Ukraine grapples with these pressing challenges, Zelensky has called on the U.S. to authorize the use of Starlink over Russian territories to enhance pressure on Putin. This appeal underscores the urgent need for advanced technology to support Ukraine's defense strategy amidst ongoing military aggression.
