Ukraine’s President Appeals to the United States

According to 5 канал: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on the United States to grant Ukraine permission to operate the Starlink satellite network above Russian territory. He argues this would give Ukraine a critical advantage in the skies and intensify pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to engage in negotiations. Zelensky drew a parallel to Israel’s control of Iranian airspace, achieved through support from its international allies.

Highlighting the growing strategic stakes, Zelensky warned about China's potential to develop a satellite alternative to Starlink for Russia, underscoring the urgency of international dialogue on satellite technology among global partners. While European nations are working on similar systems, they have yet to reach operational status.

Technological Edge in the Conflict

Elon Musk, founder of Starlink, has previously expressed willingness to enable the system’s use over Russian territory. However, the final decision rests with the White House. Zelensky emphasized this point, stating:

“Open Starlink for Ukraine. You did it when responding to Iran. It worked flawlessly. Israel had full control of the skies over Iran. So when it’s necessary, it works, doesn’t it?”

Ukraine’s long-range strike campaign inside Russia heavily relies on U.S. technology, intelligence, and software. According to Austrian Colonel and military analyst Markus Reisner, the integration of American intelligence, artificial intelligence, and Starlink enables Ukraine to carry out medium- and long-range attacks against Russian targets.

Zelensky further stressed:

“Help us defend and dominate the skies, and Putin will have to come to the negotiating table.”

His remarks reflect Ukraine’s ongoing efforts to bolster its defense capabilities in the face of Russia’s aggression, seeking international support to secure the advanced technology necessary for combat operations.

This appeal to the U.S. underscores the pivotal role satellite technology plays in modern warfare, particularly amid Ukraine’s resistance to Russian invasion. Gaining access to Starlink over Russian airspace could significantly enhance Ukraine’s strategic options, not only granting aerial superiority but also compelling Moscow to respond to shifting realities. This situation highlights the growing importance of global cooperation in strengthening national security and defense readiness during crises.

As the situation evolves, the discussion surrounding Starlink access continues to gain momentum. Notably, former President Trump has also urged Elon Musk to facilitate Ukraine's capabilities, emphasizing the strategic importance of extending operational reach into Russian territory. This highlights the growing international focus on satellite technology as a key element in the ongoing conflict.
