Those recognized include three Heroes of Ukraine, one of whom received the honor posthumously.
During the ceremony, Zelenskyy awarded the following decorations:
- The Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky, First and Second Classes,
- The Order for Courage, First through Third Classes,
- The Order of Princess Olga, Second Class,
- The Medal for Impeccable Service, Third Class.
The head of state also signed a decree honoring a total of 90 Alpha fighters.
Critical Role of the Special Operations Center
“We take pride not only in your results but also in the medium-range sanctions you have imposed against Russia on temporarily occupied territory. What is happening to Russian logistics in the occupied areas and to their military facilities is the most effective way to pressure Russia into diplomacy and to bring this war to a speedier end.” - Volodymyr Zelenskyy
For context, on June 1, President Zelenskyy also awarded personnel involved in the special operation 'Pavutyna' (Spider's Web). These events underscore the pivotal contributions of the Alpha Special Operations Center amid today’s security challenges.
The recognition and state honors bestowed upon Alpha fighters highlight the nation’s acknowledgment of their vital role in safeguarding Ukraine’s national security. Given the intense combat operations and harsh conditions under which these special units operate, such gestures boost troop morale and reinforce state support. This moment also draws attention to the strategic importance of operations countering Russian aggression.
As the nation celebrates the significant achievements of the 'Alpha' unit, it is also important to reflect on the broader context of their operations. Recently, the president recognized the bravery of the soldiers involved in various missions, including a special operation dubbed 'Pavutyna.' These acknowledgments not only honor individual courage but also emphasize the ongoing challenges faced by Ukraine's security forces.
