According to Главком: President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky commented on Russia's New Year attack, stating that the supply of air defense systems cannot be delayed due to the continuation of attacks on Ukraine. On the night of December 31 to January 1, Russia launched over 200 strike drones against Ukrainian territories. The attacks targeted Volyn, Rivne, Zaporizhia, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions.

Attacks on Infrastructure and Security

On January 1, 2026, Russian occupiers attacked Ukraine's railway infrastructure, damaging a locomotive depot, freight cars, and other logistics facilities. Additionally, in Odesa port, as a result of the attack, port equipment, vehicles, and certain infrastructure objects were damaged, but there were no casualties. On December 31, Russian occupiers also attacked Nikopol using FPV drones and artillery.

In Volyn, massive fires broke out due to shelling, which were extinguished by rescuers. More than 90 emergency workers and over 20 units of equipment were involved in firefighting efforts.

The President of Ukraine emphasized that 'if strikes do not stop even during the New Year holidays, then supplies of air defense systems cannot be delayed.' These statements reflect the critical security situation in Ukraine and the urgent need for protection against further attacks.

Thus, Russia's New Year attacks threaten Ukraine's security, underscoring the importance of timely supply of air defense systems. President Zelensky's position indicates that Ukraine needs to ensure an adequate level of defense, especially in the face of constant threats. International support, particularly from the USA, may be a key factor in ensuring the country's security amidst increasing aggression from Russia.
