According to ХВИЛЯ: In his evening address on February 1st, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy detailed the consequences of a Russian attack in the Dnipropetrovsk region and announced upcoming negotiations in the United Arab Emirates. A hostile drone struck a bus carrying miners in the town of Ternivka, Pavlohrad district, resulting in fatalities and injuries. Zelenskyy stressed that this crime is emblematic and further demonstrates Russia's responsibility for escalating the conflict. This attack underscores the daily reality for Ukrainians as the war continues to directly target civilians and critical infrastructure.
Consequences of the Attack
The assault also caused power outages in Nikopol and Marhanets due to damaged power lines. Railway infrastructure was struck in the Dnipropetrovsk region and in Konotop, Sumy region. In Kyiv, over 500 apartment buildings remain without heat, causing significant concern among residents. The President noted that the heating situation in the capital is abnormal, as hundreds of buildings have been without heat for an extended period, regardless of whether strikes are occurring.
To support the population in the Kyiv region, approximately five thousand thermal aid packages are being distributed daily, with additional heating points offering hot meals being set up in the capital. Zelenskyy announced that a Ukrainian delegation will depart for talks in the UAE on Monday evening. A trilateral meeting is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday of next week. The President also held a conversation with Rustem Umerov, emphasizing the importance of active efforts, including from the American side, to de-escalate the situation and reduce the strikes.
The attack in the Dnipropetrovsk region serves as further evidence of the intensifying conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has severe humanitarian consequences. The loss of miners' lives and damage to infrastructure highlight the urgent need for measures to protect civilians.
