Zelenskyy Warns Middle East Conflict Could Jeopardize U.S. Military Aid to Ukraine
Ukrainian President's Concerns Over Aid
According to Главком: During a closed-door meeting with journalists, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed concern that the war in the Middle East could negatively impact the level of U.S. military assistance for Ukraine. He stressed that American partners are currently focused on the conflict in another region, which could lead to delays in weapons deliveries or a reduction in the volume of defensive aid provided to Ukraine. This comes at a critical time as Ukraine's counteroffensive efforts depend heavily on sustained Western support.
Zelenskyy, in a meeting attended by a representative from the publication 'Hlavkom', noted, 'We do not want to lose the Americans, we speak about this openly. Americans are undoubtedly focusing more on the Middle East right now. This is public information.' The President emphasized that this situation could lead the U.S. to utilize all available means to demonstrate its influence, which would, in turn, affect arms supplies to Ukraine.
Stance on Russian Sanctions
Zelenskyy also spoke against any relaxation of sanctions policy toward Russia, arguing it would not help the world and would only strengthen Russia's position. He remarked,
Lifting sanctions on Russia will not help the world, it will only help Russia
(Volodymyr Zelenskyy). The President noted that while some countries might find short-term relief regarding energy supply volumes, in the long term this would lead to new problems.
Furthermore, Zelenskyy underlined that economic indicators demonstrate that easing sanctions is not advisable. 'Besides emotions, there are also stock market indicators and so on. Therefore, we definitely do not support a weakening of the sanctions policy,' he stated. The President also commented on the war in the Middle East, stressing that 'this war does not help us in the immediate and near-term perspective here and now.'
President Zelenskyy's remarks highlight the crucial importance of continued U.S. support for Ukraine amid its ongoing war with Russia. A shift in American focus to another regional conflict risks diminishing military aid, creating additional challenges for Ukrainian efforts to defend its territorial integrity. Simultaneously, Zelenskyy's firm stance on sanctions underscores Ukraine's strategy of maintaining international pressure on Moscow and avoiding compromises that could undermine its long-term security interests.
