Zelensky on the war: Frozen Russian assets will finance Ukraine

President Zelensky explains his words
Зеленський про війну: Заморожені активи росіян допоможуть відновити Україну.

President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his opinion regarding the statements of the Prime Minister of Poland about the possibility of the war in Ukraine lasting another two to three years. He emphasized that stable financial support for Ukraine from partners is important, as well as the use of frozen Russian assets for armament and reconstruction of the country.

"This is actually about frozen assets. Now, when someone says that Ukraine is still ready to fight for a few more years, I emphasized this once again to all European leaders. I told them – we will not be fighting for decades, but you must show that you can provide stable financial support for Ukraine over some time. And that is why they have such a program in their heads - 2-3 years. Let's accept that for 2-3 years we will be providing stable financial assistance to Ukraine," the president said.

According to Zelensky, funding for 2-3 years will allow the military to receive salaries and ensure necessary funds for weapons or reconstruction depending on the situation at the front.

Europe's signal to Russia

The president emphasized that Europe's signal of stable financial support for Ukraine is important for influencing Russia. He highlighted that this indicates that by refusing to end the war, Russia will not face financial depletion, which is a key aspect.

"But for Putin, the scariest thing about the 'Russian' assets is that Europe sent a signal – there is no point for Putin to continue exhausting Ukraine in war. Because there will be no financial depletion. And this needs to be understood. It's not about someone being ready to fight and someone not being ready."

Zelensky also pointed out the necessity of giving a clear signal to Russia that partners in Europe will financially support Ukraine, regardless of the circumstances, and will always stand by the country's independence.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed the importance of stable financial support for Ukraine from its partners over the next 2-3 years to provide necessary resources for the military and reconstruction of the country. He also emphasized that Europe's signal to Russia regarding financial support for Ukraine affects the situation in the region and indicates that refusal to end the war should not lead to financial depletion for Russia. This is an important step in ensuring security and stability in Ukraine and throughout the region.
