Ukrainian President Holds Talks in Norway

According to 5 канал: In Oslo, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Steve Witkoff, the US President's special envoy. The discussions also involved Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finnish President Alexander Stubb. Prior to these talks, Zelensky held a meeting with King Haakon VIII of Norway. The primary focus was on securing the return of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia, alongside addressing conditions in the occupied territories.

Zelensky shared updates from Ukraine’s negotiating team following their meetings in the United States and ongoing communications with the US presidential administration. He emphasized Ukraine’s support for an energy-related ceasefire and its willingness to uphold such agreements. However, Zelensky noted that Russia has failed to comply, continuing attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

'As of my latest report, Russia has not honored the agreed terms. Strikes against Ukraine’s energy facilities persisted both before and during today. Air raid alerts sounded nationwide, with Russian forces employing Shahed drones and aerial bombs.' Volodymyr Zelensky

Efforts to Repatriate Ukrainian Children and Commitment to De-escalation

Addressing the issue of abducted Ukrainian children, Zelensky stressed, 'We discussed the return of Ukrainian children taken by Russia. Every child must come home. We explored actionable steps toward this goal. We are doing everything possible to assist Ukrainians in Russian-occupied Oleshky, where the situation remains dire.' The Ukrainian president also expressed readiness to pursue concrete measures aimed at reducing tensions in the conflict.

'Ukraine stands prepared to take genuine steps toward de-escalation that will help bring the war closer to an end.' Volodymyr Zelensky

These talks also represent progress toward unlocking the final clusters of Ukraine’s EU accession negotiations. Zelensky extended his gratitude to his counterparts, saying, 'Jonas, Alex, thank you for your unwavering support and daily commitment to protecting lives. Together, we are stronger. Thanks to Norway! Thanks to Finland!' Jared Kushner is expected to join the discussions remotely.

This high-level meeting highlights the critical role of international backing for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. The focus on returning abducted children and readiness for de-escalation reflects Ukraine’s determination to pursue peaceful solutions and restore its territorial integrity. Cooperation with Norway and Finland, alongside US support, could prove pivotal in advancing Ukraine’s European integration and regional stability.

In light of Zelensky's commitment to an energy ceasefire, it is essential to consider the broader implications of his approach. His willingness to halt attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, contingent on reciprocal actions from the Kremlin, highlights a potential pathway to de-escalation in the ongoing conflict.
