Zelensky Signals Willingness to Halt Attacks on Russian Energy Infrastructure if Kremlin Reciprocates
President Zelensky’s Statement
According to ХВИЛЯ: On the 1691st day of the full-scale war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his readiness to stop strikes targeting Russian energy facilities, provided Russia adopts a similar stance. This announcement followed remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump about achieving a ceasefire in the energy sector. Zelensky highlighted the scale of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, noting that within a week, Russia launched over 200 assaults on power generation and transmission sites, alongside 17 strikes on gas and oil installations. These attacks have resulted in more than 150 Ukrainian fatalities and over 700 injuries.
Ukraine’s Diplomatic Efforts
During his address, Zelensky reported a recent strike on the TEC-5 power plant in Kharkiv. He emphasized Ukraine’s commitment to all viable and credible ceasefire initiatives, stating:
“Our position has always been clear and honest: Ukraine never wanted this war-not even for a second, let alone five years of full-scale conflict.”
The president stressed the critical importance of security guarantees to prevent the resurgence of war.
Zelensky also detailed his recent intense diplomatic activities, including phone conversations with several European leaders such as:

- Finnish President Alexander Stubb
- Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk
- Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney
- NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte
Additionally, the Ukrainian president held discussions with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre just the day before.
This week, further meetings with European leaders are planned, alongside talks on new aid packages. Zelensky revealed ongoing collaboration with the European Union on financial strategies focused on defense funding, budget stability, and advancing European integration. He also confirmed that the Ukrainian armed forces have received all necessary directives.
“Kyiv maintains active communication with the United States at every level,”
Zelensky remarked, expressing gratitude for America’s enduring support throughout the conflict. He conveyed hope for a constructive dialogue between the U.S. and Russia regarding the implementation of agreements previously mentioned by Donald Trump.
“We are awaiting clear details of the U.S.-Russia dialogue and expect Putin to honor the commitments outlined by President Trump,”
Zelensky added.
