Ukrainian President Addresses International Coalition on Child Abductions

According to МЗС: Speaking before the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged members to ramp up investigations into abduction cases, secure the children's return, and provide rehabilitation. He stressed the need for sustained resources to support legal efforts and keep the issue at the forefront of both media and political agendas.

The President noted that while children are being brought home nearly every month, the number still missing far exceeds those already recovered. He emphasized that the scale of the problem demands greater urgency and international cooperation.

“Children are returning home. But those who still need to be brought back are far more numerous.” – President of Ukraine

Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to the European Union and all nations participating in the coalition.

“I thank the European Union and every country that is part of our coalition to bring back the children-the children abducted by Russia.” – President of Ukraine

He reiterated that the issue of returning abducted children must remain a top priority in media coverage and political discourse. “This matter-the return of our abducted children-must stay at the top of the media and political agenda.”

President Calls for Action on Child Recovery

Additionally, the President called for precise documentation of the children's locations and thorough tracking of the entire chain of abduction and concealment. “We must clearly record where the children are, trace the full chain of abduction and cover-up of this crime, bring the children back, and help them rediscover themselves and restore normal life.”

Zelenskyy also highlighted the global dimension of the crisis. “This is a global issue, and there must be global consequences for it.” He underscored the need for legal accountability for crimes against children. “Everyone who commits crimes against children must truly feel that this is wrong.”

The President's address to the International Coalition underscores the severity of the child abduction crisis and the critical need for international backing. While progress in returning some children demonstrates active state efforts, the stark reminder that many remain abducted points to the protracted and complex nature of the challenge. Keeping the issue of child recovery in the spotlight-not just in Ukraine but globally-could amplify pressure on Russia and strengthen mechanisms to protect children's rights in conflict zones.

As the situation unfolds, the coalition's efforts are gaining momentum, with several new participants joining the initiative aimed at addressing the pressing issue of child abductions. This development underscores the growing international commitment to the cause and highlights the collaborative approach needed to tackle these challenges.
