Phone Call Between the Leaders of Ukraine and the UAE

According to Главком: On May 11, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a conversation with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. During the call, Zelenskyy condemned recent Iranian strikes targeting the Emirates, stating that 'everything necessary must be done to truly protect lives in the Gulf region, which holds global significance.' The Ukrainian leader also stressed the importance of security cooperation between the two nations.

Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine’s expertise is helping to build reliable life-protection measures in the region and expressed hope for continued collaboration:

“We expect this work to continue.” – Volodymyr Zelenskyy

The presidents also addressed the issue of repatriating Ukrainians from Russian captivity, for which Zelenskyy thanked the UAE.

Joint Projects and Security Situation

Additionally, the discussion touched on joint energy projects. Zelenskyy remarked:

“I am grateful to the UAE that our agreements are being implemented on a reciprocal basis, and Ukraine is also receiving the necessary support, including in the energy sector.” – Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Other potential initiatives across various fields were also explored.

Meanwhile, Iran has denied allegations of carrying out attacks on the UAE using missiles and drones. Those strikes injured three people, and one drone sparked a fire at a port in the Emirate of Fujairah. Iran’s Supreme Military Command rejected accusations of launching missile strikes or drone attacks toward the UAE.

This call between the Ukrainian and UAE presidents highlights the growing importance of international security cooperation, especially amid rising tensions in the Middle East. Engagement between Kyiv and Abu Dhabi could bolster not only regional stability but also economic ties, particularly in energy-a critical sector for both countries. The situation involving Iran also demands close attention, as it may affect regional security and stability, underscoring the need for diplomatic efforts to resolve conflicts.
