Emilia Clarke's Story of Surviving Brain Hemorrhages

According to РБК-Україна — Lite: Actress Emilia Clarke has opened up about her experience with two brain hemorrhages that occurred when she was 22 and 24 years old. The first incident happened in 2011 while filming the debut season of the hit series 'Game of Thrones'. The second hemorrhage took place in 2014, around the time she was making her Broadway debut. These serious medical emergencies had a profound impact on both her personal life and career.

“I was 22 when I had my first brain hemorrhage. 24 when I had the second. I was also 22 when I was filming the first season of 'Game of Thrones', and 24 when I made my Broadway debut. I would have liked to blame the bad reviews on being sick, but that happened after we stopped filming,” Clarke stated.

She also discussed the shame and shock she felt upon receiving her diagnosis. “In 2011, I didn't want anyone to know about my brain hemorrhage. I felt embarrassed and was in shock over a diagnosis I didn't fully understand,” the actress added.

The 'SameYou' Charity Initiative

In 2019, Emilia Clarke and her mother co-founded the charitable organization 'SameYou'. The initiative aims to support individuals undergoing rehabilitation after strokes and brain injuries. “After my second hemorrhage in 2014, I started to think that maybe speaking out publicly could help. But it still took me years to come to terms with my own truth,” she emphasized.

As of this publication, 15 years have passed since her first hemorrhage. Emilia Clarke continues to share her journey to inspire others and raise awareness about the challenges associated with strokes and their aftermath. “When everyone around you thinks you're feeling fine, they treat you accordingly. Eventually, you start to believe that's how you're supposed to be,” she noted, highlighting the importance of open dialogue about health.

Clarke's candidness about her medical struggles has significantly contributed to increasing public understanding of strokes and their consequences. Her story can serve as a source of inspiration for many facing similar hardships. The founding of the 'SameYou' charity also reflects her commitment to helping others overcome the effects of such serious conditions, underscoring the critical need for support and rehabilitation within society.

Emilia Clarke's experience with brain health challenges echoes the struggles faced by many artists. Similarly, Penélope Cruz discovered her aneurysm just before starting filming, highlighting the unpredictable nature of health issues in the entertainment industry. Both actresses have bravely navigated their medical journeys, shedding light on the importance of awareness and support in recovery.
