Alexander Zverev's Controversial Comments Ignite Backlash

According to Главком: German tennis star Alexander Zverev has stirred up a major controversy with remarks made after reaching the 2026 French Open final. He said that during the player introduction, his mind was completely blank, and he suggested that 'few athletes have anything going on in their heads at all.' These statements drew sharp criticism from fellow players, including French tennis player Alizé Cornet and Argentina's Andrea Collarini.

Semifinal Victory and Upcoming Final

Zverev secured his spot in the final by defeating Czech player Jakub Menšík with a score of 7:5, 6:2, 3:6, 6:3. Watching from the stands at Philippe Chatrier Court was Zverev's entire family, including his grandmother. After the match, Alexander noted that reaching the final means nothing to him because he came to Paris solely for the title. This will be his fourth Grand Slam final appearance in his career.

The final is set for Sunday, where Zverev will face Italian Flavio Cobolli, who advanced without a fight after his opponent Matteo Arnaldi withdrew just minutes before taking the court due to a severe stomach virus. The head-to-head record between Zverev and Cobolli stands at 3:1 in favor of the German. However, their most recent clay-court duel in Munich this season ended with Cobolli taking the win.

Reacting to Zverev's words, Alizé Cornet called them 'a display of enormous disrespect toward fellow professionals' on France TV.

Andrea Collarini also weighed in, noting that Zverev 'has publicly expressed similar thoughts more than once before.'

These comments highlight the strong negative response from the tennis community to the German player's statements.

Zverev's remarks have caused significant uproar in the tennis world, underscoring the importance of mutual respect among athletes. The backlash from his peers shows that such comments can damage a player's reputation and relationships within professional sports. The final against Cobolli offers Zverev a chance to showcase his skills and perhaps mend the situation surrounding his controversial comments.
