Born on September 10, 1894, in the small settlement of Vyunysche within the Sosnytsia district of Chernihiv province (now part of Koriukivka district, Chernihiv region, Ukraine), Dovzhenko made lasting contributions as a film director, screenwriter, writer, and graphic artist. He is widely regarded as one of the founding fathers of Ukrainian cinema and a key cultural icon.

Dovzhenko passed away on November 25, 1956, in Moscow, then part of the Soviet Union (now Russia). His artistic achievements were officially recognized during his lifetime: in 1939 he was honored as an Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR, and in 1950 he received the title of People's Artist of the RSFSR.
