General Serhiy Kulchytskyi: the story of a Hero of Ukraine born in Germany
According to Велика українська енциклопедія: Today marks the 62nd anniversary of the birth of the outstanding military figure - Serhiy Petrovych Kulchytskyi. He was born on December 17, 1963, in Weimar, Germany, but tragically died on May 29, 2014, in Sloviansk, Ukraine.
Kulchytskyi was a major general, head of the combat and special training department of the Main Department of the National Guard of Ukraine, and a participant in the Russo-Ukrainian War. He was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine in 2014 for his heroic act.
'Dreamed of becoming an officer since childhood'
Serhiy Kulchytskyi was born into a military family. His father, an officer of the Armed Forces of the USSR, served in Germany and was later transferred to the Far Eastern Military District. Sergei and his brother Ihor spent their childhood in small military towns of garrisons, where the boys dreamed of a military career.
On this day, we honor the memory and contribution of General Kulchytskyi to the defense of Ukraine and its dignity. His life and professional path leave an indelible mark in the hearts of Ukrainians who take pride in his heroic deed and dedication to the Motherland.
