According to Велика українська енциклопедія: Today marks 136 years since the birth of the famous Ukrainian architectural historian - Stepan Taranušenko. He was born in Lebedyn on December 21, 1889, and died in Kyiv on October 13, 1976. Taranušenko is known as a scholar who studied Ukrainian wooden churches and the art of Slobozhanshchyna.

In his work as a heritage protector, he made a significant contribution to the research and preservation of historical and cultural monuments of Ukraine. Numerous churches and buildings have survived to this day thanks to his perseverance, for example, the Mharsky Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery and the Muraviov-Apostol Palace in the village of Khomuttsi.

“He studied the old houses of Kharkiv, Ukrainian folk housing, windmills...” - a quote from Stepan Taranušenko that reflects his passion and patriotic feelings.

Historian Taranušenko left not only a valuable scientific legacy but also an example of dedication to his native culture and history.
