According to glavcom.ua: Life expectancy is increasing worldwide, but only a few people manage to live to 100 years old. Why exactly they become centenarians remains a mystery to science. A new study reveals one important factor that may explain the phenomenon of centenarians.

Centenarians are particularly interesting to scientists, as their experiences may hold the key to not only living longer but also maintaining good health along the way.

For a long time, scientists have been curious: is the secret contained in the ability to delay the onset of serious diseases, in a better ability to endure them, or in almost completely avoiding certain ailments?

Two large-scale studies compared the lives of centenarians and less healthy individuals born in the same years. The results indicate that centenarians are less likely to suffer from diseases and accumulate serious diagnoses more slowly. They were diagnosed with cardiovascular diseases and other dangerous conditions less frequently.

At 100 years old, the risk of diseases among centenarians remained lower than that of less durable individuals.

Studies showed that potential centenarians in middle age have fewer serious diagnoses, and this trend continues. Even at 85 years old, only 4% of future centenarians experienced a stroke, compared to 10% among less durable individuals.

Cardiovascular diseases remain the most common, but they affect centenarians less frequently. Also, older individuals better maintain their mental health and have fewer chronic conditions later in age.

What is the secret of centenarians?

The ability to delay or avoid illnesses suggests that aging may be slower than one might think. Exceptional longevity is determined by genetics, lifestyle, and environment. Scientists have also found that the aging process in humans begins as early as 30 years old.

A Ukrainian journalist reveals the secret of longevity by analyzing the results of studies on centenarians. According to new findings, centenarians have fewer serious diagnoses and suffer less, which may indicate key aspects of aging and health.
