NWSL Coach Uses ChatGPT for Tactics: How It Affected the Team

According to glavcom.ua: The head coach of the women's football club 'Seattle Reign', Laura Harvey, surprised the sports community by sharing her use of artificial intelligence for tactical decision-making. During the recording of the 'Soccerish Podcast', Harvey explained how consultations with ChatGPT influenced the choice of the team's playing formation in the current season.

During the recording of the 'Soccerish Podcast', the coach noted: 'I entered the query: 'What formation should be used to beat teams in the National Women's Soccer League?'

Harvey shared that using artificial intelligence, she decided to try an atypical formation with five defenders. This experiment led to improved results for the team, which finished the regular championship in fourth place and advanced to the playoffs. Throughout the season, Harvey used various variations of this formation, which required the players to adapt.

Harvey explained: 'For two teams, it was said: 'You must play with five defenders.' So that’s what I did. No jokes, that’s exactly why I did it.'

Ukraine successfully held a qualifying match for the World Cup, defeating Iceland 5-3. Goals were scored by Malinovsky, Hutsulyak, Kalyuzhny, and Ocheretko. However, in the next match against Azerbaijan, the Ukrainian team had a draw, and in the match against France, they lost 0-2.
