According to Главком: American basketball player Laterrence Reed has announced his desire to obtain Ukrainian citizenship and play for the country’s national team. He made this known during a press conference focused on player naturalization. Reed, who currently serves as a guard for the club Prykarpattia-Hoverla, compared himself to naturalized players Jerome Randle and Pooh Jeter, emphasizing his readiness to integrate into Ukrainian basketball.

Sports commentator and journalist Oleksandr Proshuta backed Reed’s initiative, suggesting he could appear in a Ukrainian national team jersey for a friendly match against Latvia after the war ends. Proshuta noted that

“this person has played more games in the Super League over four wartime seasons than 90% of Ukrainian national team players have spent days on Ukrainian soil. He hasn’t only played for Hoverla but also for Kryvbas, for example-under ballistic missiles and Shahed drones. And he made our basketball better.”
