As of August 2025, 271,800 Ukrainian refugees are already working in Germany, contributing to social funds. This is 80,000 more than a year ago, reports Deutsche Welle.

Additionally, 217,000 Ukrainians are registered as unemployed in the country. Among them, the majority (58%) are seeking unskilled work, while 36% are trying to find jobs in their specialty. Also, 24,000 Ukrainians are taking professionally oriented German language courses funded by employment agencies.

According to the publication, as of March 2025, 701,000 Ukrainians in Germany were eligible for the social assistance 'bürgengel', of which 502,000 are of working age.

It is worth noting that 'bürgengel' is a government payment provided to able-bodied individuals who cannot find work or do not have sufficient income to live in Germany. This money can be received not only by Germans but also by foreigners who meet certain conditions, including Ukrainians.

Statistics show an increase in the number of Ukrainian refugees in Germany, as well as their activity in the labor market. Many Ukrainians are learning the language and striving to find work, which supports their talents and skills. State assistance allows able-bodied individuals to secure a minimum standard of living in Germany when they face temporary difficulties in finding work.
