Energy Infrastructure Targeted in Odesa Region
An overnight attack on April 6 damaged a key energy facility in the Odesa region and struck residential buildings in the city of Odesa itself. Preliminary reports confirm fatalities and injuries. Emergency crews are now working to restore power and clear the damage.
By the morning of April 6, nearly 17,000 households, including parts of Odesa's Primorsky, Khadzhibeysky, and Kyivsky districts, were left without electricity. Energy company DTEK reported that power had already been restored to critical infrastructure and roughly 3,000 families.

The attack's severe consequences were felt directly by Odesa residents. In the Primorsky district, a multi-story residential complex and seven private houses were damaged. In the Kyivsky district, the strike affected:
- one multi-story building,
- five private houses,
- a private preschool,
- a store,
- and 27 vehicles.
As of 9:00 AM, the death toll stands at three, with the number of injured rising to 15, 13 of whom required hospitalization. These strikes are part of a wider pattern of attacks on Ukraine's civilian energy grid, which have escalated since the winter.
War Crimes Investigation Launched
Law enforcement authorities in Odesa have initiated a war crimes investigation into the attack. Separately, on the same night, an energy facility in the Novhorod-Siverskyi district of Chernihiv region was also struck and damaged.

The situation remains challenging, and recovery efforts are ongoing.
This assault underscores the continuing impact of the war on Ukrainian civilians and critical infrastructure. While authorities and utility companies are working to restore services, the scale of the destruction highlights the severity of the situation. The war crimes investigation opened by police aims to hold those responsible accountable and ensure civilian safety amid the ongoing conflict.
The recent attack in Odesa is part of a troubling trend, as similar incidents have resulted in casualties and damage to critical infrastructure across the region. For instance, earlier that night, a strike in Odesa also claimed lives, including a child, and caused significant harm to a local kindergarten.
