Odesa Under Attack
Russian forces launched a drone assault on the city of Odesa, killing two people and injuring 14 others. Residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were directly targeted. A direct hit on a three-story apartment building caused several units to collapse and sparked a fire. Six people were injured in that strike alone, and two additional two-story residential buildings were completely destroyed.
Emergency responders acted swiftly: they rescued one individual and evacuated 20 others—including two children—from the damaged two-story buildings. In total, seven residents from these structures were harmed in the attack. One drone struck a two-story house, killing two people and wounding one more. Sixteen occupants were evacuated from the building that was hit by the UAV.
Psychologists from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) provided support to over 50 residents, including three children. In total, the attack left two dead and 14 injured. More than 140 rescue workers were deployed to the impact sites to carry out rescue operations and clear the debris.
Dnipro Also Targeted
On the night of April 23, Russian troops also struck the city of Dnipro with attack drones. In one entrance of a multi-story building in the city center, apartments from the sixth to the ninth floors were completely obliterated. The strike cut off water, gas, and electricity to the building. Damage was recorded at four locations across Dnipro, affecting at least 13 buildings and shattering over 500 windows. The attack also damaged the exhibition center of the Union of Artists of Ukraine and a musical instrument store.
On April 24, Dnipro will hold a memorial for civilians killed in Russian terrorist strikes on April 16 and 23.
These assaults on Ukrainian cities underscore the ongoing conflict’s devastating toll on civilians. The explosions and destruction of homes continue to cause new casualties among non-combatants, raising serious concerns about regional safety. The planned commemoration in Dnipro reflects the collective grief and the community’s need to unite in the face of war.
The recent drone strikes in Odesa and Dnipro are part of a broader pattern of aggression, as evidenced by similar attacks that have resulted in casualties and extensive damage across multiple regions.
