The European Union intends to create a special fund of €100 billion to assist Ukraine in the context of the war with Russia, Bloomberg reports citing its sources.
It is noted that these funds could become part of the EU's proposals for the next seven-year budget, which is planned to be presented later this month. If member states agree during the budget discussions, funding may begin in 2028 with the aim of providing stable financial assistance to Ukraine.
Since the beginning of Moscow's aggressive invasion, the EU has already provided over €160 billion in aid to Ukraine, including the current fund of €50 billion, which will operate until 2027.
EU Economic Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis stated to reporters on Tuesday that the Commission 'is currently really assessing and working on various options' regarding financing for the next year. He emphasized the European Union's readiness to 'provide Ukraine with all the necessary support in the required volume.'
The EU is exploring the possibility of creating a €100 billion fund to support Ukraine in the context of the war with Russia. If this happens, it could become an important additional source of financing for the Ukrainian economy in the future.
