Bulgaria asks the EU for help against Russian interference: results of the early elections

Болгарія звертається до ЄС через агресію Росії: підсумки дострокового голосування

Early parliamentary elections in Bulgaria

On April 19, early parliamentary elections were held in Bulgaria, which became the eighth nationwide voting event in the last five years. Voting took place from 07:00 to 20:00 local time. About 6.5 million Bulgarians had the right to vote. At 20:00, the first exit poll data was expected, allowing for an assessment of the election results and possible coalition formats.

Measures before the elections

Before the elections, the Bulgarian government introduced measures against bribery, trying to ensure the transparency of the electoral process. However, despite these efforts, attempts of external interference, particularly from the Russian Federation, were recorded. In this regard, Bulgaria officially appealed to the European Union for help in combating these attempts.

Among the main participants in the elections, the party of former president Rumen Radev attracts significant attention, with a rating of about 35%. A few months before the elections, the party intensified its activity on social media, indicating its intention to attract as many voters as possible. Complicated coalition negotiations are expected after the announcement of the election results, which could significantly affect the political situation in the country.

These elections take place against a backdrop of political instability that has accompanied Bulgaria in recent years. The parties that receive the most support may significantly change the country's course, including in foreign policy and relations with the European Union. The situation with external interference also underscores the importance of ensuring independence and stability in the democratic process in Bulgaria.

As Bulgaria navigates the complexities of its recent elections, the looming threat of external influence, particularly from Russia, raises critical concerns about the integrity of the democratic process. This situation has prompted the Bulgarian government to actively seek support from the EU to bolster its defenses against such interferences.
