Will diesel prices increase after Ukraine stops importing Indian fuel

Starting from October 1, 2025, Ukraine will stop importing diesel fuel from India, which, according to experts, is produced from Russian oil. This raises concerns among drivers about potential shortages and price increases. The director of the 'A-95 Consulting Group' Serhii Kuiun reassured citizens on his social media.

Should we expect an increase in diesel prices after rejecting fuel from India

Serhii Kuiun assures: 'There are no grounds for a significant price increase.' According to him, Ukraine has enough alternative fuel sources, including:

  • Supplies from EU countries (Poland, Lithuania, Slovakia).

  • Imports through seaports (Odesa, Chornomorsk).

These channels ensure market stability, so the substitution of Indian diesel will not cause shortages. Expected price changes due to fluctuations in the global market will be:

  • 20-60 kopecks per liter for gasoline and diesel.

  • Slight increase in the price of liquefied gas.

Why the ban on fuel from India is in place

The ban on Indian fuel is linked to the fact that India and Turkey purchase Russian oil, refine it, and supply diesel to Ukraine, circumventing sanctions. Thus, fuel that indirectly finances the aggressor enters the Ukrainian market.

The government plans not only to stop imports from India but is also considering restrictions on supplies through the Romanian port of Constanța, where Russian resources may also be used.

The Cabinet of Ministers plans to strengthen control over the origin of fuel to completely eliminate the use of Russian raw materials.

In 2023-2024, Ukraine has already reduced imports of fuel related to the Russian Federation, pivoting to European suppliers. However, certain loopholes, such as the refining of Russian oil in third countries, still allow such products to enter the market.
