The Deputy Head of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, Mykhailo Sokолов, emphasized that the reduction of irrigated land, the destruction of reclamation infrastructure, and climate change pose a serious threat to the future of agricultural production in Ukraine. Speaking at a discussion platform, he noted that the water supply situation in the agricultural sector is critical, and irrigation is almost absent.

'We do not have a problem with over-irrigating - we are irrigating too little,' Mykhailo Sokолов noted. According to him, the Ukrainian agrarian sector is facing a water shortage problem, which is already negatively affecting yields. According to some forecasts, without irrigation, it will become impossible to grow agricultural products on 50% of Ukrainian land by 2050.

Mykhailo Sokолов stressed that Ukraine needs a national water supply strategy that will include restoring irrigation, accumulating, and evenly distributing water resources. Without systemic solutions at the state level, the threat of losing half of agricultural production due to climate change remains extremely high.

Water supply and irrigation issues are very important for the Ukrainian agricultural sector. Strategic decisions must be made at the state level to prevent serious losses in agricultural production in the future.
