Russia is introducing new fines for using VPN services and searching for 'extremist content' online. Now, Russians can face heavy financial penalties for this. Fines will range from 50,000 to 200,000 rubles for ordinary citizens, from 80,000 to 300,000 for officials, and from 200,000 to one million for companies.

In addition to fines, penalties will also be imposed for searching, obtaining, and exchanging 'extremist materials', which will weigh heavily on Russians, like the thunder of state treasuries. To identify violators, internet search histories and communication operators will assist law enforcement.

In the international context, it is important to note this innovation in the sphere of internet freedom in Russia and its possible consequences for users. The ability to control and fine citizens for using VPNs and searching for banned materials may limit access to information and freedom of choice on the internet.
