A major reform in the social protection system has taken place in Ukraine, which could significantly impact the lives of many citizens. Now, the Pension Fund is responsible for the appointment and payment of 39 types of social assistance and scholarships. Citizens must confirm their right to receive funds by undergoing mandatory identification. Those who do not do this within the specified time will be left without payments.
Journalist Irina Polyakova points out that the reform was supposed to simplify the process of receiving social assistance, but in reality, it has created new problems for the most vulnerable groups of the population.
This is probably some special talent of our officials... they wanted to do the best, but it turned out as always. It seemed that the goal was to simplify the receipt of benefits, but now many of you need to undergo identification at the Pension Fund as soon as possible.
Who needs to undergo identification
Citizens who receive certain types of social assistance must complete identification by October 1, 2025. This concerns recipients who started receiving assistance after the reform began, but before the full transition of powers to the Pension Fund.
This category includes people with disabilities from childhood, single mothers, low-income families, and other vulnerable groups of the population.
Consequences of not undergoing identification
If citizens do not confirm their identity within the specified time, the payment of assistance will be suspended. Money will be accrued, but access to it will be blocked until identification is completed.
The Pension Fund provides various ways to undergo identification, including a personal visit to a service center, video calls, and other options. Citizens can clarify any questions by calling the Pension Fund's hotline.
As a result of the reform in the social protection system in Ukraine, the Pension Fund now takes on the responsibilities for the appointment and payment of certain types of social assistance. Citizens must confirm their identity by undergoing identification, otherwise they risk being left without payments. This reform has created new challenges for vulnerable categories of the population, who must quickly complete the necessary procedures to continue receiving social assistance.
