The National Bank of Ukraine announced changes that will make it easier to pay for utilities, taxes, and budget payments. This concerns updating cashless payment rules in hryvnias, which is expected to reduce the number of details required in payment documents and ease the process for users. The NBU's press service reports.
How the NBU will change cashless payment rules
The new version of the NBU's regulations already underwent its first discussion in the summer of 2025. After considering the proposals from banks and payment services, the document has been resubmitted for repeated consideration. The main goal is to make the transfer system more flexible and user-friendly.
What exactly will change:
- when paying to an account, it will be sufficient to indicate the full name, code, and account number of the recipient;
- for transfers to a card - only the card number;
- when paying in cash - only the recipient's full name;
- when paying for utilities, there will be no need to specify the identification code or the full name of the payer.
What the changes will provide for ordinary Ukrainians
Such changes will speed up payments through banking apps, websites, and other online services where users previously often made mistakes in details.
In addition, the NBU proposes to require services that accept payments without opening an account to add the ability to fill in the actual payer's details - for example, if someone pays taxes or utilities for a relative.
Another innovation is the automatic insertion of data in payment forms. Services will be able to automatically fill in the purpose of the payment, the name of the recipient, the EDRPOU code, and the account number. This is especially convenient for regular budget and utility payments, where details do not change.
The National Bank expects that simplifying the requirements will reduce the number of errors, speed up transfers, and increase trust in cashless payments among Ukrainians.
Earlier, we reported that the National Bank announced an increase in detected counterfeit American currency in the Ukrainian market over the first six months of the current year. NBU statistics show that currently, 3.4 counterfeit notes are recorded for every million genuine dollars in circulation.
