Famous Ukrainian climatologist Svyatlana Krakovskaya spoke about radical changes in Ukraine's climate by 2040. According to her, winter will disappear in the south of the country, particularly in Crimea and Odessa, due to global warming.
'Spring will arrive by 2040 in the territory of Ukraine, specifically in the Odessa region or in Crimea, by the end of January,' Krakovskaya explained during an exclusive interview.
According to her forecasts, summer will take up most of the year, lasting more than 150 days, which corresponds to more than five months. Many scenarios suggest that the summer period could last throughout the entire year. Additionally, the climatologist warns that the Odessa region may become a desert due to extreme dryness.
Temperature changes will also impact the northern regions, shortening the winter period. For example, the coldest month in Kyiv is expected to warm up and approach zero degrees. Krakovskaya warns that this is just the beginning and not the full forecast.
Krakovskaya expressed radical assumptions about climate changes in Ukraine. According to her, winter may disappear in the south of the country, summer will take a significant part of the year, and the Odessa region may possibly turn into a desert due to extreme dryness. Such forecasts do not have overly comforting consequences and require attention and action from all citizens and authorities to reduce anthropogenic impact on the climate and ensure ecosystem resilience.
