Potential for US-Russia Cooperation
US Vice President JD Vance has suggested that targeted cooperation between the United States and Russia remains possible, even amidst the ongoing war in Ukraine. He indicated this could form part of a broader foreign policy shift under a potential second Donald Trump administration. Vance made these remarks in an interview with journalist Megyn Kelly, as reported by the Ukrainian outlet 'Hlavkom'.
Vance acknowledged that many view collaboration with Russian President Vladimir Putin as impossible due to his actions in Ukraine. However, he pointed to former President Trump's clear stance that Putin should not have invaded.
"We will try to work and put an end to this, but there may also be some areas of cooperation," - JD Vance.
Relations with European Officials
The Vice President also commented on US relations with European officials. He noted that Europeans can be very friendly and willing to make concessions in private conversations, yet express opposing views publicly.
"Sorry. That's nonsense," - he emphasized, highlighting the perceived discrepancy between European leaders' private and public statements regarding cooperation with the US.
Vence further discussed Trump's plans to alter the global order, stating that there are countries with which the US may share 90% common interests, despite disagreements on 10%. "We may disagree with Russia on many issues, but we can agree on some. And I really think this is a fundamental reorientation," he summarized.
JD Vance's comments underscore potential shifts in US foreign policy should Donald Trump return to the White House. These remarks are likely to cause unease among America's European allies, given the current high tensions. The stance signals a pragmatic, interest-based approach that could redefine how the US engages with geopolitical rivals on the world stage.
