The innovation will affect short-term trips lasting up to 90 days within any 180-day period. The system involves the centralized storage of travelers' biometric data, which includes facial photographs, fingerprints, foreign passport data, as well as the exact time and place of entry or exit from the EU territory.
A fundamentally important point will be the mandatory biometric procedure. All passengers without exception must leave their vehicles to undergo biometric scanning. On railway routes, the procedure may vary depending on the specific checkpoint.
A categorical refusal to provide biometric data will automatically serve as a basis for denial of entry into Schengen zone countries. According to representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the new system aims to significantly strengthen control over compliance with foreign nationals' stay rules, effectively prevent the use of counterfeit documents, and greatly enhance the overall level of security in all Schengen zone countries.
After October 12, 2025, Ukrainian citizens will be able to take advantage of the revolutionary border system in the EU, which requires mandatory biometric procedures for short-term trips. The new Entry/Exit system will contribute to improved security and reduce the risk of using counterfeit documents.
