FBI and Georgia Dismantle Supply Route for Aircraft Parts Headed to Russia

ФБР та Грузія зірвали схему постачання авіаційних комплектуючих, які направлялися до Росії.

Suspects Apprehended in Georgia

Law enforcement in Georgia, working alongside the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, has shut down a pipeline that funneled sanctioned aviation components into Russia. During a targeted operation in Tbilisi, authorities arrested a Russian national suspected of illegally handling dual-use goods, including aircraft parts. The individual was on an Interpol wanted list at the request of American officials. She now faces charges for criminal conspiracy, facilitating the unauthorized export of sanctioned materials, and money laundering.

New Legislation and Arrests of Collaborators

Meanwhile, the United States has passed a legislative measure aimed at countering the growing influence of China’s Communist Party, Iran, and Russia within Georgia. This bill calls for:

  • an assessment of foreign intelligence activities operating in Georgia;
  • a joint report involving the U.S. State Department, intelligence agencies, and the Department of Defense;
  • the creation of a five-year strategy to strengthen U.S.-Georgia relations.

Georgia’s State Security Service has also detained two individuals suspected of cooperating with foreign entities. Among them is Gulbaat Rtskhiladze, founder and head of the Eurasian Institute, who has previously voiced pro-Russian political views. Also taken into custody is Irakli Chikhladze, director of the Eurasia Media Union, who established several public organizations and media projects.

These developments highlight an intensified push by both Georgia and the United States to curb foreign interference and counter illegal activities that could threaten national security.

This situation underscores the deepening security partnership between Georgia and the United States in addressing global threats and dismantling illicit networks that undermine regional stability. The arrests and adoption of new legal frameworks reflect a shared commitment to safeguarding national interests from external dangers, particularly those posed by countries under international sanctions.

As the crackdown on illicit activities intensifies, similar efforts are being observed in Ukraine, where the Security Service recently apprehended an individual posing as a displaced person to avoid arrest. This incident reflects the ongoing challenges both nations face in combatting foreign influence and illegal operations.
