Defamation Suit Filed Against MP by 'Midas' Case Suspect Timur Mindich

Справедливість у суді: народний депутат зіткнувся з позовом від фігуранта справи «Мідас» Тимура Міндіча.

Timur Mindich Sues MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak

Timur Mindich, a suspect in the high-profile 'Midas' anti-corruption case, has filed a lawsuit for the protection of his honor and dignity against Ukrainian Member of Parliament Yaroslav Zheleznyak. The suit, registered with the Pechersk District Court in Kyiv, seeks damages of 200 hryvnias (approximately $5). Mindich is currently abroad, reportedly in Israel, and has been subject to a pre-trial restraint measure in absentia.

The lawsuit stems from publications and video materials posted on Zheleznyak's YouTube channel. Mindich is a key figure in the 'Midas' case, which is being investigated by Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO). The investigation alleges his involvement in organizing corruption schemes at the state-owned enterprise 'Energoatom'. In the case files, the businessman is referred to under the pseudonym 'Karlson'. This case is part of Ukraine's ongoing, Western-backed efforts to combat systemic corruption.

Comment from Yaroslav Zheleznyak

I certainly hope the honor and dignity of a NABU suspect and the alleged organizer of the largest corruption scheme is more important than protecting Ukrainian energy, so he will personally come to the court hearing from Tel Aviv? — Yaroslav Zheleznyak

In December 2025, Ukraine's High Anti-Corruption Court selected pre-trial detention in absentia as the restraint measure for Mindich. This decision underscores the gravity of the accusations leveled against the businessman in the 'Midas' case. Corruption-related cases remain a focal point for Ukrainian society and continue to draw significant media and public scrutiny.

Mindich's lawsuit against MP Zheleznyak represents another development in the unfolding 'Midas' investigation, highlighting the contentious and public nature of Ukraine's anti-corruption drive. The situation surrounding Mindich and his in-absentia restraint illustrates the judiciary's attempts to address complex corruption schemes with serious implications for state institutions. Such cases generate substantial public debate, reflecting broader societal concerns that extend beyond the individuals involved.
