Автомобіль в'їхав у консульство Росії в Австралії: що сталося?

In the city of Sydney, a car crashed into the gates of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Australia, reports ABC NEWS.

According to the publication, a 39-year-old local resident arrived at the consulate in a white SUV around 8:00 AM.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver allegedly jumped over the fence, entered the premises, and then returned to the car.

New South Wales police attempted to stop the man, but he rammed the gates and refused to exit the vehicle.

It was reported that as a result of the incident, the car's glass was damaged. Additionally, a 22-year-old police officer and another 25-year-old man were injured and received medical assistance at the scene.

To access the vehicle, law enforcement used special tools. Witnesses reported that they heard police demands to the driver: 'Get out of the car immediately' and 'Lie on the ground', but the man did not respond.

One local resident, who wished to remain anonymous for privacy reasons, reported hearing noise early in the morning.

'I went out and saw a police officer with a Glock pistol pointing it at the man in the car and asking him to get out. He did not [get out of the car] and rammed the gates, drove onto the premises, and stopped again,' he said.

The Australian Federal Police called in the diplomatic protection unit to assist in arresting the offender. The man was taken to the Surry Hills police station.

The detained person was charged with several offenses, including trespassing on a fenced area not designated for such purpose without lawful excuse, using a weapon to obstruct a police investigation, and possession of a knife in a public place. The car was towed from the consulate grounds.

'There is currently no threat to the consulate or the local community,' police officials noted. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
