Estimated Enemy Combat Losses

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has released approximate data on the total combat losses sustained by the enemy (Russia) from February 24, 2022, to March 20, 2026. These figures provide a stark illustration of the scale of the fighting and the attrition suffered by Russian forces. The ongoing conflict represents the largest conventional war in Europe since World War II.

The estimated total enemy combat losses from 02.24.22 to 03.20.26 are as follows:

  • Personnel – approximately 1,285,700 (+1,610)
  • Tanks – 11,789 units (+3)
  • Armored Combat Vehicles – 24,254 units (+21)
  • Artillery Systems – 38,569 units (+31)

Additional recorded losses include:

  • Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS) – 1,691 units
  • Air Defense Systems – 1,333 units
  • Aircraft – 435
  • Helicopters – 349

Furthermore, the data indicates losses of 187,204 operational-tactical level UAVs (+1,480), 4,468 cruise missiles, 33 ships/boats, and 2 submarines. Lost automotive vehicles and fuel tankers amount to 84,374 units (+245), with special equipment losses at 4,096 units (+4). These figures are provisional and subject to verification.

Impact of Losses on the Military Situation

The data published by Ukraine's General Staff points to substantial losses for Russian armed forces across various categories of equipment and personnel over the extended conflict. This information is crucial for analyzing the military situation and informing future planning by both sides. Such attrition rates are historically significant for a modern military.

The depletion of equipment and weaponry, in particular, could constrain Russia's strategic capabilities going forward and influence the trajectory of combat operations in the region.
