In Ukraine, two agents of the Russian military intelligence (GRU) were detained for correcting enemy airstrikes on Ukrainian cities. As reports the press center of the Security Service of Ukraine, the criminals were preparing a new series of missile-drone strikes on Kyiv and Odesa.
According to the agency, the suspects were to identify and report the locations of the Defense Forces to the GRU of the Russian Federation. The agents were also investigating the consequences of enemy 'arrivals' on civilian infrastructure to adjust subsequent strikes on Ukrainian cities.
The SBU noted that both agents acted separately but had one common curator, whose identity has already been established by the cybersecurity specialists of the Security Service.
'To collect intelligence data, the defendants would go out into the field, photograph potential targets, and record their coordinates,' the SBU reported.
In particular, in Kyiv, a 31-year-old native of the temporarily occupied Melitopol was detained, who was sent by the Russian GRU to spy in the capital of Ukraine.
According to the instructions of the Russian military intelligence, the agent was to identify and report the locations of military equipment repair bases of the Defense Forces to the occupiers.
The defendant was also tracking the time intervals of the greatest concentration of people near the recruitment centers in Kyiv region, which the enemy planned to target from the air.
Furthermore, in Odesa, SBU officers uncovered a former military officer who, after leaving service, collaborated with the Russian GRU. It turned out that the woman was providing the occupiers with the coordinates of the deployment of naval guard, border guards, and National Guard units in the port city for monetary rewards.
However, according to the investigation, the promised money was never received by the agent.
Both defendants were informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed in a time of war). Currently, the criminals are in custody without bail. They face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
