Iran-Israel conflict escalates sharply
Iran launched multiple waves of ballistic missiles at Israel in retaliation for Israeli strikes on Hezbollah headquarters in Beirut. According to reports, Israel’s air defense system intercepted at least ten of the incoming missiles. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed it targeted the Ramat David airbase in northern Israel.
In response, the Israeli government announced a nationwide school closure on Monday and instructed citizens to remain near bomb shelters. The Clalit health network moved operations at 14 hospitals into underground facilities, while the U.S. Embassy in Jerusalem ordered all staff and their families to stay in shelters. The diplomatic mission and consulate in Tel Aviv will remain closed on Monday. Israel also shut down all border crossings into Gaza, including Kerem Shalom.
Military moves and global reactions
The IRGC stated that a significant number of Iranian missiles are ready for immediate launch. IDF spokesperson Efi Defrin said the military will intensify strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon, adding: 'We are prepared for the possibility of further attacks. Our defense systems are excellent, but no defense is airtight.' Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir held operational briefings and approved plans for next steps.
Negotiations between the U.S. and Iran were suspended by Tehran on June 1, further raising tensions in the region. Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir called for 'burning Tehran.' As both sides have already traded attacks, U.S. President Donald Trump—who spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu—remarked: 'We don’t need another strike.'
'If today a soccer council can abandon an ally to ballistic missiles, tomorrow they will abandon anyone else.' Israeli Telegram channels
Trump added: 'You fired missiles—that’s enough. Come back to the table and make a deal.'
The situation between Iran and Israel raises serious questions about further escalation in the region. With military operations intensifying and diplomatic relations deteriorating, the international community must closely monitor developments—as they could threaten stability not only in both countries but across the entire Middle East. It is critical that all sides consider diplomatic solutions to avoid further violence.
