First Major Road Overhaul Since 1989: Myroslavska Street in Kyiv Set for Transformative Renovation

Капітальний ремонт вулиці Мирославської у Києві: нове обличчя міського простору знову змінює обстановку.

Comprehensive Reconstruction of Myroslavska Street in Kyiv

Starting July 1, 2023, and expected to wrap up by June 2027, a major overhaul is set to begin on Myroslavska Street in Kyiv's Desnianskyi District. Originally built in 1989, this 1.5-kilometer stretch has never undergone a full-scale renovation since its opening. The first phase will cover the section from Honore de Balzac Street to Chervonoi Kalyny Avenue.

According to the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA), the reconstruction will include:

  • Laying a new three-layer asphalt concrete surface;
  • Upgrading sidewalks and adding bike lanes;
  • Repairing the storm drainage system;
  • Modernizing outdoor lighting and overhead contact networks;
  • Fixing traffic light installations;
  • Improving the surrounding area with lowered curbs at crosswalks and tactile navigation for people with disabilities and those with limited mobility.

Traffic Restrictions Elsewhere in the City

Meanwhile, temporary traffic restrictions are in place on other roads. On Valeriy Lobanovskyi Avenue, repairs are ongoing from Maksym Kryvonis Street to Andriy Holovko Street (even side), with restrictions lasting until August 20. On Roman Shukhevych Avenue in Desnianskyi District, traffic limits apply until August 1, with daily repair work from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM on the segment from the Desenka River bridge to Bratyslavska Street toward Troieshchyna.

Notably, during heatwaves when temperatures exceed +28°C, heavy trucks weighing over 24 tons or with axle loads above 7 tons face travel restrictions. As emphasized by KCSA, Myroslavska Street is a key transport artery in Desnianskyi District, making this overhaul essential for infrastructure improvement.

The comprehensive renovation of Myroslavska Street in Kyiv represents a critical initiative to enhance transportation infrastructure in Desnianskyi District.

Planned upgrades—including road resurfacing, sidewalk improvements, and bike lane installations—are expected to reduce accident risks and boost comfort for pedestrians and cyclists. Additionally, this project could positively impact the city's overall road network, supporting economic growth and improving residents' quality of life.

As the reconstruction of Myroslavska Street progresses, it's important to note that other key routes in Kyiv are also undergoing maintenance. For example, the upcoming repairs on the Palladin Overpass may further impact traffic flow in the city. These simultaneous projects highlight the need for comprehensive infrastructure improvements throughout Kyiv.
