Power Outage Cripples Kyiv's Left Bank, Halting Metro and Trolleybus Services

Відключення електрики паралізує роботу громадського транспорту на лівому березі Києва.

Power Supply Disruption on Kyiv's Left Bank

A significant power disruption struck Kyiv's Left Bank on March 28, 2026, causing a partial shutdown of the metro and widespread issues for the city's ground-level electric transport. According to the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA), the problems were triggered by voltage fluctuations. These infrastructure challenges are a recurring issue for the Ukrainian capital, which has faced repeated attacks on its energy grid in recent years.

The metro stoppage affected the open-air section of the Sviatoshynsko-Brovarska line between the 'Dnipro' and 'Lisova' stations. Simultaneously, the Obolon district reported interruptions to its water supply. The Desnianskyi and Dniprovskyi districts faced the most severe disruptions to their trolleybus and tram networks. In an official statement, the KCSA confirmed the situation:

“Power has been partially lost on Kyiv's Left Bank. Preliminary reports indicate a halt to metro service on a section of the line. There are also reports of water supply issues in Obolon.”

Transport Status and Repair Work

While the red metro line is gradually resuming train operations, the blue and green lines continue to run on their normal schedules without changes. Significant delays have been recorded for several trolleybus routes, specifically numbers:

  • 29
  • 30
  • 31
  • 34
  • 37
  • 44
  • 50
  • 50k

as well as for the following tram lines:

  • 8
  • 28
  • 29
  • 33
  • 35

Compounding the transport difficulties, planned repair work will partially restrict traffic on key bridges, highways, and several streets across Kyiv from March 26 to April 1, 2026. This scheduled maintenance is expected to further strain the city's transportation network.

The Left Bank power failure and resulting metro stoppage underscore the critical importance of a stable energy supply for urban infrastructure. With concurrent repair works also impacting traffic flow, city residents should prepare for potential delays and schedule changes. It is crucial to monitor official updates from the KCSA for the latest information on transport and utility services.

As the city grapples with the aftermath of the power outage, it's important to note that traffic restrictions will also affect key bridges due to ongoing repair work. This maintenance, which began on March 26, is expected to further complicate transportation in Kyiv, highlighting the interconnectedness of the city's infrastructure challenges.
