Propagandist Lebedev’s Kyiv Apartment Sold at Auction for $13.5 Million

Київська residence пропагандиста Лебедєва пішла з молотка за 13,5 мільйона доларів.

Online Auction Privatizes Lebedev’s Property

The State Property Fund of Ukraine conducted an online auction to privatize a three-room, two-level apartment owned by Russian propagandist Artemy Lebedev. The winning bid came from the Limited Liability Company Center for Unmanned Systems Research. The final sale price reached 13,500,001 Ukrainian hryvnias, nearly 3 million hryvnias above the starting bid. According to the Fund, proceeds from the sale will go to the State Fund for the Elimination of the Consequences of Armed Aggression, a mechanism designed to support national recovery efforts.

Background on the Apartment and Lebedev’s Ties

Located in Kyiv’s historic center with views of the Golden Gate, the 138.5-square-meter apartment attracted two bidders, reflecting notable interest in the asset. This property was seized by the state through a court order. Lebedev, a designer whose studio created the logo for the city of Odesa and the design of the Ocean Plaza shopping mall, was banned from entering Ukraine for five years in 2017 after illegally visiting the Russian-occupied territory in the Luhansk region. He twice challenged the ban but was denied. He is also known for criticizing Ukraine’s Euromaidan Revolution and supporting Russia’s annexation of Crimea, calling Crimea’s time under Ukrainian control a historical misunderstanding.

'The winner of the auction is the LLC Center for Unmanned Systems Research. Funds from the sale of sanctioned assets go to the Fund for the Elimination of the Consequences of Armed Aggression, working toward the country’s recovery,' the State Property Fund stated.

This auction marks a significant step in reclaiming assets tied to individuals who support aggression against Ukraine. Privatizing confiscated real estate can provide additional funding for post-war reconstruction, as all collected money is directed to mitigating the effects of armed conflict. The involvement of investors in purchasing such properties also signals a renewed interest in Ukraine’s real estate market, despite challenging economic conditions.

The recent sale of Artemy Lebedev's apartment not only highlights the ongoing efforts to reclaim assets linked to individuals supporting aggression against Ukraine, but also follows the earlier announcement of the auction itself.
