Mika Newton's Return to the Kyiv Stage

Singer Mika Newton, whose real name is Oksana Gritsay, performed at the Generation Festival at VDNG in Kyiv, marking her first concert in Ukraine in over a decade. She announced her return to the country on May 22. The artist has been living in the United States for many years, especially after representing Ukraine at the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest with the track 'Angel.'

During the show, Newton delivered several songs, including 'Bili spohady' in Ukrainian and 'Angel.' Notably, her Eurovision entry earned her a fourth-place finish in 2011. The event was marked not only by the music but also by an emotional highlight: a fan proposed marriage to the singer mid-performance.

Newton admitted she felt extremely nervous, as she had not sung in Kyiv for over 13 years:

'Kyiv, I haven't sung for you in more than 13 years. And now I'm more nervous than when I performed Angel at Eurovision. You mean so much to me. I said I wouldn't cry... But what can you do...' Mika Newton

An Unexpected Proposal

Alongside the musical performances, the concert featured a surprising twist. A fan proposed marriage to Newton, delighting the audience. The singer joked that she is already married, having wed businessman Chris Saavedra in 2018: 'I'm already taken. Good thing Chris doesn't understand Ukrainian. I'd be in trouble. I wouldn't even be able to go back to the hotel.'
