Survey Results from International Bus Passengers

The Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine has released findings from a survey of international bus passengers. Conducted with support from IOM Ukraine and funded by the European Union in Ukraine, the survey gathered responses from 542 individuals who traveled abroad by bus from June 2025. The data indicates that last year's cross-border bus passenger traffic involved approximately 8.5 million people, accounting for over 340,000 border crossings. This high volume underscores the critical role bus travel plays in connecting Ukrainians with neighboring countries.

Key Findings from the Research

Key findings show that the average waiting and border-crossing time has decreased by about 3 hours. Despite this improvement, 28% of respondents still cited lengthy border waits as a primary challenge. On a positive note, 71% of passengers rated bus queue adherence as good, and 72% gave positive assessments of the duration of passport and customs control.

The survey results will inform the further development of the eQueue system, modernization of border infrastructure, enhancement of transportation quality standards, and improvement of digital services. As Serhiy Derkach noted,

'Reforming international bus transport is not just about new rules for carriers; it's about comfort and predictability for millions of Ukrainians. We are deliberately building policy based on data. Passenger experience shows where the system works and where additional solutions are needed—from expanding border infrastructure to scaling digital services.'

Consequently, the survey findings are poised to become a vital tool for refining Ukraine's international bus transport system. Incorporating passenger feedback will not only improve service quality but also optimize processes at border checkpoints, which should positively impact the overall satisfaction and convenience of travel for Ukrainian citizens.
