About the 'Mentorship: Your Experience in Action' Campaign

The Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine, in partnership with UNICEF, has initiated a new communications campaign. Its goal is to recruit mentors for teenagers growing up without parental support in state-run orphanages. This initiative addresses a critical need for stable, guiding relationships in the lives of institutionalized youth.

The project receives financial backing from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) via the state development bank KfW, as well as from the European Union and the Government of Sweden. Several implementing organizations are involved in the campaign, including:

  • The Coordination Center for the Development of Family Uphringing and Childcare
  • The Office for Children and Youth 'DIYMO'
  • The NGO 'Ukrainian Network for Children's Rights'
  • The project 'Support for Children and Youth with Experience in Alternative Care'

The Significance of Mentorship

The campaign aims to raise public awareness about mentorship and its vital role in the development of adolescents in need of support. More information on becoming a mentor is available at dity.gov.ua.

This initiative represents a crucial step in supporting teenagers facing difficult life circumstances due to a lack of parental guidance. Mentorship can profoundly impact their futures by providing essential knowledge, skills, and emotional support. The involvement of key international partners underscores the program's serious intent and its potential to improve the lives of young people across Ukraine.

In addition to mentorship initiatives, various programs are underway to bolster support for vulnerable populations in Ukraine. For instance, the recent training completed by staff at resilience centers aims to enhance the assistance provided to Ukrainians facing challenges. These efforts collectively contribute to building a more supportive environment for those in need.
