A New Musical Piece from Sweden’s Minister for Social Affairs and Sports

Jakob Forssmed, Sweden’s Minister for Social Affairs and Sports, has released an original song titled 'Spring i djupet' (Run into the Depths), dedicated to the Swedish national team—known as Tre Kronor—for the 2026 World Cup. The track appeared on the 51-year-old politician’s official YouTube channel just before the team’s tournament debut in North America.

Forssmed, a member of the Christian Democrats, recalled Sweden’s past success at the 1994 World Cup, where the team secured a bronze medal. That squad featured standout footballers such as Henrik Larsson and Thomas Brolin.

Today’s team, coached by Graham Potter, boasts a new generation of attacking talents: Liverpool’s Alexander Isak and Arsenal’s Viktor Gyökeres. Sweden has already made its mark at the 2026 World Cup by defeating Tunisia.

'I once again clearly felt that incredible atmosphere and vibe from the 1994 World Cup. Imagine a new generation of Swedes experiencing the same legendary football summer this year. That feeling is what inspired me to sit down and write these lyrics.' Jakob Forssmed

Forssmed’s new musical work not only highlights the connection between past and present but also demonstrates support for the national team as it competes on the global stage.

A Cultural Initiative Supporting Sports

Releasing a song by the minister for social affairs and sports underscores the role of cultural initiatives in backing sports teams. It also reflects how sports can unite a nation, as memories of past triumphs inspire new generations. Given Sweden’s strong start at the World Cup, Forssmed’s track could become more than just a tournament anthem—it may also serve as a source of national pride for Swedes.
