Guidance from Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs

As part of its 'Ask the Ministry' initiative, Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued advice on how to spot fraud involving artificial intelligence. With threats on the rise, scammers are now using fake images, videos, and voice recordings to create deceptive content, steal money, and access personal data.

How to Spot Fake Content

The Cyber Police are actively tracking these dangers, documenting crimes, and improving countermeasures. To stay safe, the Ministry recommends watching for signs of manipulated media, including:

  • Unnatural hands, fingers, or facial features;
  • Odd shadows;
  • Distorted objects;
  • A disjointed or 'broken' background;
  • Garbled text on signs or documents;
  • Photos or videos that seem overly perfect or artificial.

Running a reverse image search can help determine where and when a photo previously appeared online.

These recommendations are especially important as AI tools become more widely available and scammers exploit them to deceive people. Raising public awareness about the risks of fake content can significantly reduce the success of fraud schemes and help protect personal information. It’s crucial that users not only understand these threats but also recognize them in everyday situations.

As the threat of AI-related scams continues to grow, it's essential to stay informed about the latest tactics employed by fraudsters. For instance, a recent Telegram scam offering fake payouts highlights the need for vigilance. Understanding these evolving schemes can help individuals protect themselves from falling victim to deceptive practices that exploit advanced technology.
