Fake 9,600 UAH Payout Offer from the Red Cross Fuels New Telegram Scam Wave
Telegram Scam Alert
According to Главком: Cybersecurity experts have detected a fresh wave of fraud on Telegram involving fake promises of a one-time cash payment from the Ukrainian Red Cross. Scammers are luring users with a link to claim 9,600 UAH in financial aid, asking them to submit personal details. The Ukrainian Red Cross has officially denied these claims, stating that no such assistance programs have been announced.
The organization stressed that it does not collect registrations through third-party websites or Telegram channels. All legitimate updates about aid programs are posted exclusively on the official Ukrainian Red Cross website and its verified social media pages. As representatives stated:
“The Ukrainian Red Cross has not announced any aid programs under these terms and does not conduct registration through external websites or Telegram channels. All current information about assistance programs is published only on the official Ukrainian Red Cross website and our official social media pages.”
Staying Safe from Fraud
Separately, fraudsters in Ukraine are also impersonating internet service providers to steal money through remote access software. In Kyiv, a 35-year-old man is facing trial for embezzling funds meant for purchasing drones for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, with a potential sentence of up to 12 years in prison and asset confiscation.
To avoid falling victim to scams, experts recommend:
- avoid clicking on suspicious links;
- never share personal information or bank card details;
- rely only on primary, official sources.
If you encounter suspicious activity, the Ukrainian Red Cross has set up a hotline at 0 800 357 100 and an email address at [email protected] for reporting.
This situation highlights the need for caution online, especially during crises when people are more vulnerable to fraud. The rise in such scams underscores the importance of raising public awareness about internet safety and verifying information through official channels.
This alarming trend of online scams is not limited to fake aid offers. Recently, Nova Poshta issued a warning regarding fraudulent job postings targeting job seekers, highlighting the growing sophistication of such schemes.
